Women in particular need to keep an eye on their physical and mental health, because if we’re scurrying to and from appointments and errands, we don’t have a lot of time to take care of ourselves. We need to do a better job of putting ourselves higher on our own ‘to do’ list.”
―First Lady Michelle Obama
Maintaining balance is one of the hardest things to do when you own your own business. It’s also something that is especially challenging for us moms to achieve as we are always putting ourselves last.
While working this summer, I realized that although most people were enjoying their family time (for the most part) during the quarantine. I spent most of it down in my office working like a crazy person.
I thought if you worked harder, you would make more money. You will then have more security in your business. But all I ended up doing, was burning myself out!
So how the hell are you supposed to grow your business without burning out?
Finding a balance when you own your own business is all about setting really clear boundaries and having really great systems to help you manage the workload.
It’s about being really honest with yourself and the workload you have. What makes you happy at the end of the day and what rules you are going to put in place to get there?
If you want to take your business to the next level, here are a few steps to help you get started:
1. Find the right tools and systems to help you manage your business.
These tools need to work together and provide the right coverage in your business. There are a few really great All-in-One tools out there that will save you time and sanity #dubsado
2. Create a repeatable process.
Once you have the right tools in place, you need to create a simple, repeatable client process that you can build out and automate, so you aren’t wasting time re-creating the wheel over and over again. This was a game-changer when I started scaling my business. #WorkSmarterNotHarder
3. Learn to Delegate.
The next step is to review the tasks in your business that only you can do and find a way to delegate out the rest. You can’t grow your business doing the same thing you did yesterday. You need to step into a CEO mindset in order to grow your business and that means getting help. #Delegate
4. Record your Processes.
The most important thing you can do to set your business up for success and growth is to set really great foundations. Create simple processes to record how you navigate the tasks in your business. These processes can be recorded on video and then when you start delegating out your tasks, you have everything ready to go for your new hire. #processes
Managing my business and personal life is something that I will always have to work at and that’s ok. You have to know when to push and when to put your boundaries up. By working through the 4 steps above, you will be setting up your business to grow and not be forced to work even harder.
When you find yourself grinding, it’s time to come back to this list, and re-evaluate how you are managing your time and balance, again.
